Canada's Quebec Province to Implement E-Cigarette Flavor Ban
As per recent reports from relevant media outlets, Quebec Province in Canada will implement a flavor ban on e-cigarettes starting from October 31st.
According to the ban, all flavored e-cigarette products other than tobacco flavor will be prohibited from sale. Additionally, e-cigarette devices with bottled liquid capacity over 30ml as well as pre-filled liquid capacity over 2ml will also be banned.
The ban was proposed in April of this year, and the Quebec Vaping Rights Coalition reported that over 30,000 citizens of Quebec had commented on the proposed ban. However, no modifications were made to the rules by the health department.
This ban comes amid growing concerns about the health impact of vaping and e-cigarettes. Recently, there have been multiple cases of lung illness and even death linked to vaping across North America.
In response to these concerns, various jurisdictions across the world have introduced legislation aimed at curtailing the use of e-cigarettes and reducing their appeal, particularly to young people.
In Canada, flavored vaping products have already been banned in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. And in the US, several states including Michigan, New York, and California have temporarily or permanently banned flavored e-cigarettes.
Proponents of the Quebec ban argue that it will help reduce youth vaping by reducing the appeal of flavored products. However, some in the vaping community have argued that the ban will merely push users towards other sources of flavored e-liquids, such as black market products.
Only time will tell how effective the ban will be, and whether other regions will follow suit in introducing similar legislation aimed at reducing the appeal of e-cigarettes. Nevertheless, it is clear that the concerns around vaping are not going away anytime soon.
